Dresser flip
I found another treasure on the side of the curb a while back. If the residents of my small town realized what could be done with these items, they might come marching over to my house and demand them back. Shhh don't tell them! Here is the dresser we picked up:

Rub 'n Buff = fantastic product!
I used Rub 'n Buff for the first time on dresser handles. See the entire dresser flip here. I used the color Silver Leaf, but it also comes in Antique Gold, Gold
Leaf, and Spanish Copper. You can find it at most craft stores for
around $5.

No one said it would be easy
Today's post will be a bit more somber. I know this is a diy blog, but I'd like to share something that my family has been going through. I'm not looking for sympathy. I'm hoping blogging about this will be therapeutic for me and that someone else going through the same thing might stumble across this and find comfort.

30 cool upcycling ideas
A coworker sent me a link to an article that has 30 neat ways to use old stuff you're about to throw away. For the link, click here.
I liked #15. Basically drilling holes into a wooden fence and adding marbles to jazz it up.
Which ideas do you like?

diy moving survival kit
We helped my cousin and her husband move over the weekend. Not only are they family, but they're dear friends of ours and I'm very thankful for their friendship. They bought a beautiful acreage in south Lincoln that would be any decorators' dream. The home has so much character. We're talking pillars, big entry with staircase to second floor, light posts along the winding drive, etc. It's nothing like the typical cookie cutter houses they build today. I can't wait to see how she'll decorate for the holidays. It could be something straight out of a magazine.
Anyways, onto today's project. I made a little moving survival kit for them. Since I coupon, this kit cost me next to nothing. I used a shoe box and ribbon I had on hand as the "basket".
The kit includes:
-toilet paper (nothing worse than getting to a new place and not being able to use the bathroom)
-hand soap
-a beer (moving sucks)
-dish soap
-toiletries just in case they can't find their own - toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, lotion
-antibacterial gel
-chocolate
-stir sticks for painting

I'm back
Sorry, friends. I've been on vacation the past few days. I would have warned you on Friday that I wouldn't be blogging for most of this week, but internet creepers and all... didn't want to come home to a break in!
We had a great time skiing Copper Mountain. I highly recommend it. For me it's tied with Steamboat at the top of my list. Breckenridge and Keystone are nice, but I'd much rather ski Copper. Something about the way the mountain is laid out. So many great runs. It wasn't that busy either and it was President's Day weekend. Steamboat is amazing, but it's a longer drive for us. I would love to ski Vail someday. Better save my pennies because it's $$$!
Here are a few pics from our trip:

More Valentine's Day ideas
I haven't done any other Valentine's day projects (besides the posts from the past several days that you can see here, here, here, and here) so today I'll show you projects or decorations that I would love to attempt, but just haven't gotten around to.
How cute and easy does this look? Check it out at It's a Wonderful Life.
This diy countdown board is adorable. It's from Infarrantly Creative.

Valentine's Day centerpiece
I'm rocking the red, white, and blue today in hopes it will help Team USA! Did you watch the Olympics last night? How heartbreaking that none of our snowboarders placed in halfpipe. Seems like there have been several great American athletes that were supposed to place only to completely miss the medal stand. Guess that's the way it goes. Here's hoping for better luck today!
Okay, onto this Valentine's Day bouquet...

Olympic treats
Okay, okay. I said this week was all about Valentine's Day, but I've been more excited about the Olympics. Have you been watching every night? We sure have.
I stole this idea from a friend's post on Facebook. It's the easiest thing ever! Buy M&M's and make the Olympic ring design on anything - brownies, cakes, a big cookie, etc.

Valentine's craft with buttons and burlap
This is one of my favorite craft projects! I had all the items on hand, but if you were to purchase these materials I think you could make this for under $10.
You'll need a frame, buttons, burlap, and hot glue.

6PM coupon code
Remember how I seriously love 6pm.com? It's an affiliate of Zappos, but I think they have much better prices. They always have free shipping too. Use code 6PMEU207141423 through the end of today to save an additional 14% off everything (including clearance). It's valid for the first 4,000 users so hurry! This is a good deal for 6PM. Every once in a while they send out 10% off codes so anything over that is rare.
I snagged a pair of clearance Sperry boat shoes and Keen ankle booties for waaaay less than their original price. Shhh... don't tell my husband. They also have clothing, purses, etc.

Free Friday at EcoStore
First Friday of the month = Free Friday at EcoStore. I snatched up these items for, you guessed it, free!
Heart wreath
I have to apologize to all of you. I told you this would be posted yesterday and it didn't happen. I ended up taking a sick day because I've been battling this annoying cold for about a week now. I got some extra sleep, took a ton of Emergen-C, avoided my computer like the plague, and feel quite a bit better today. Phew!
Okay, so I made the wreath in a couple colors. This is a super easy project and I would imagine kids would really enjoy it.

Valentine's Day shelf
The holiday of love, romance, and mushiness is upon us. The rest of this week and next will be all about Valentine's Day! I never decorate for this holiday so I don't have any decor on hand. However, after stumbling across neat ideas on pinterest I suddenly decided I need to at least try. Here's my first attempt:

Save $ on going to the movies
Going to the movies is expensive! I know going on a Tuesday night may not sound as exciting as going on the weekend, but it will save you some major $$ and it shouldn't be as crowded. Let's be honest... we all hate it when someone sits smack dab in front of us and we can't put up our feet!
Marcus Theatres is offering $5 movies and FREE popcorn every Tuesday through February 25. This deal is good on ALL of their movies. If you're not from the Midwest, you probably have a different brand of theatres in your area. Check to see if they offer anything similar. They probably do!
I've been wanting to see American Hustle, Frozen, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Lone Survivor. Those are all showing tonight as well as several others. If you're not snowed in tonight (like I might be) consider hitting up the theatre!
Here are some other discounts at Marcus Theatres that you might be able to take advantage of:
Student Thursdays: Select locations offer $5 movies on Thursdays for students with student ID
Early Bird: $5 movies Friday-Sunday before 11 a.m.
Young at Heart: $4.50 movies for ages 60 and older that start before 5:30 p.m.
Kids Dream: February 1-March 16 $2.00 select kids' movies on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Sundays at 11 a.m.

Super Bowl thoughts
So what'd you think of the Super Bowl last night? What a blowout! So the game wasn't much to watch. That's not a huge deal to me though. I usually watch it for the commercials which weren't overly impressive, but here are the most memorable ones for me:
