Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, friends. I took the day off to recover from a bachelorette weekend in Kansas City. I just can't party like I used to and need twice as much time to recover! Anyone else feel the same?
I did help work on the basement yesterday once my husband got home from work. We added insulation and drywall to one of the bedroom ceilings. Make sure you use 1/2 inch drywall on ceilings - so much lighter!

My husband had to add studs around the duct work first. The studs are what you'll screw the drywall onto. Obviously you can't screw into the duct work!

Fiberglass insulation is super itchy so cover up! |

Adding a few staples to keep it in place |

First sheet of drywall going up. Definitely a two person job. Make sure you have two tall ladders. |
Anyone can finish a basement. It might take us ten times longer to do it ourselves, but we'll also save a fortune. Check out the website
I Finished My Basement. It's awesome. It even takes you through the
8 Major Phases - framing, electrical, plumbing, audio visual, drywall, painting, trim and doors, and flooring.
We're a long ways out from painting, but Sherwin Williams had their
40% off sale going on so we picked out our paint... and $300 later below are the colors we're using:
Heron Plume for the trim and doors, Popular Gray for the living room and office, and Perfect Greige for the bedroom and bar area. Have any of you used these colors? We'll still need paint for the bathroom and the second bedroom. I'm hoping we'll have some leftover, but we might have to buy more. Yeesh.
Great job! I'm pretty sure that this drywall insulation job that you did is sure to have made your house seem more warm and cozy!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jennifer! I sure hope so :)
DeleteCongratulations on adding insulation to your ceilings! That should help keep the heat and air conditioning in your home much better than it will without insulation. It's amazing what little renovations like insulation can do for your home.
